Album Spotlight: Hunter Rea Band – Lovin’ Ain’t Free

It’s likely The Hunter Rea Band has been flying under your radar, but we think those days are quickly coming to an end.  The Belton, TX 4-piece is releasing their debut full-length album, “Lovin’ Ain’t Free”, this Friday (July 7th) and we’re excited to share the good word!  HRB has put some pretty good notches in their belt already, winning both the Chilifest and The Watermelon Thump battle of the bands last year, on top of playing up and down the Texas highways since the release of the debut EP in 2014!

If you’ve been keeping up with the group for a while, you’ve probably noticed what we have: they’ve really put the pieces together over the last year or two!  There are definitely some bright spots on their 2014 “Worrying Kind – EP”, but now looking back at it, it seems like the band hadn’t quite found their sound yet, and struggled a little bit to capture their energetic style in the studio on their first go-around (and I think they’ll be the first to tell you that).  If you’ve been able to catch a live show (especially recently), you know that the band has a super-cool groove and front-man Hunter Glaske has some killer pipes, so we were really hoping the band was going to be able to put together a record that fully showcases their ability….and we’re happy to report that it’s exactly what their new 11-track project does!

With a solid mixture of Texas soul, R&B, and southern rock, the album provides upbeat, distorted-guitar laced tracks, smooth, mellow love ballads and everything in between!  The record really captures the band’s dynamic sound, and has some absolutely killer tunes! From the rockin’ heartbreak song “Memories”, to the smokey “Woman to Hold”, to the sentimental ode to a grandparent in “Passing On” the album’s diverse sound showcases not only how versatile they can be while staying in their lane, but also how good they can sound while doing it!  This is an album you listen to, and then want to go catch their show to see how they pull it off! It’s hard not to be impressed with just about everything on the record, and hopeful for where they’re headed.

The album is one that you can play all the way through, and offers the listener with a well-produced, well-written, well-played, and complete product!  We definitely recommend getting your hands on a copy this Friday, but in the meantime enjoy one of our favorite tracks, “Lonesome Traveler” below!

You can also take a listen to “Find a Way”, as well as, plenty of other great Texas Country, Americana, Red Dirt, and Southern Rock here on our TMP Spotify Playlist:
