When I saw Dustin Sonnier’s new single sitting in my inbox last week, I couldn’t help but get excited. Sonnier has a sound that always grabs a hold of me from the first note. I was due for a fix from the Louisianian…and “Drinking Alone” gave it right to me!
Recorded at Ray Tone Records, Sonnier penned the tune while sitting in the parking lot of a mexican food restaurant. “I was doing a show for a Policeman’s Fundraiser and I was talking to a friend whose ex kept coming back and playing head games with him… you know, on again off again BS. .. and he said, ‘Man I’d rather be able to have her for one night than not at all’, and the idea for the song popped in my head”, Sonnier told TMP. “I think everyone has had that one person that kind of has a hold of them and hopefully this song can let them know they aren’t the only ones” he continued.
Here at TMP, we’re all over this one. Deep twangy vocals, heartbreak, whiskey, and a sound that sits somewhere in the middle of traditional and neo-traditional country music…what’s not to like? This is my kind of song!
And the good news is…there’s more music on the way! “A new album will be coming out in a few months; just trying to finish up all the mixing and stuff right now” Sonnier told us.
So stay tuned to the band’s social media for updates and be sure to catch a show if you can. There’s a great chance coming up October 12th at The Conroe Cajun Catfish Festival with Randall King And Josh Ward! Talk about a great night of country music….
In the meantime check out the new single below, and be sure to request it at radio and stream it on Spotify!
