Tanner Fenoglio first impressed us last year with his killer debut album, “This Town”. Between the 185K streams on Spotify the title track has received, and success of his debut radio single, “This Ain’t the Movies”, he’s certainly coming in to his next project with some anxious fans and exciting momentum!
The Nocona, Texas native is releasing the lead single from his upcoming project this weekend (5/19) and we’re excited to give you an early listen! Recorded at The Zone in Dripping Springs with Lloyd Maines and Pat Manske, Fenoglio penned the tune from the perspective of a guy going through a break up while sitting in his car on the highway. “Typically people hate sitting in traffic, but the guy in this song has come to like it because he doesn’t want to be home to say goodbye and face the breakup. It’s kind of a twist on traffic being a good thing” he told us.
Fenoglio went on to say, “I joke that if you spend enough time sitting in I-35 N traffic out of Fort Worth, you’re bound to write a song about it, and that’s pretty much what happened. I’m sure the are several more songs from sitting on 35 in me” the singer/songwriter said with a laugh.
Here at TMP we are really digging the tune. From the first fiddle lick to the last, the song is smooth Texas country. Fenoglio’s descriptive songwriting and vocals with a touch a twang and a touch or earthiness, really drive the message home. We dig the creative angle of this breakup song and it has us eagerly anticipating the rest of the upcoming project.
Currently working on the new record with Lloyd Maines in Dripping Springs, the band plans to release the album late this summer! The 5-piece is also gearing up to hit the road. After taking some time off to spend time with his new little one, Fenoglio and his band, are getting ready for a bustling next few months. “ We’ll get busy again in June and throughout the rest of the summer promoting the new record. We are starting to play some of the new stuff and getting an idea of what is working well live. We have some new ones we are really proud of and can’t wait for people to hear them!”
So if you get the chance, be sure to catch a show, and in the meantime enjoy an early listen to the brand new single “Interstate”, below!
You can also hear “Interstate” once it drops, along with other great Texas/Red Dirt music here on our TMP Spotify Playlist!
