Single Spotlight: Judson Cole – Goodbye Dallas

12439550_504661026325895_6152847157034503825_nJudson Cole is no stranger to our Texas Music Pickers spotlights, so when we saw his new single, “Goodbye Dallas” racing up the charts, it was an easy decision to feature it in this week’s Single Spotlight.  Moving up to #67 spot on the Texas Regional Radio Report, and knocking on the door of the Texas Music Chart’s Top 50, the track was produced by Jude Dyllan and the Judson Cole Band, at Red Dirt Recordings in Grand Prairie.

Cole wrote the song a few weeks before his first trip to Nashville. “I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I was nervous, and excited, and anxious, altogether. Texas and Nashville have had this rift between each other for the last couple of decades and I think that is where this song stemmed from. The Texas Country that I grew up with and that was popular when I was discovering the genre was very “Anti-Nashville.” That was a huge factor in the growth of the Texas scene, its independence from the mainstream” he told us.

“The song is about an artist that believes he has a chance to hit it big and when he finally does, it just isn’t all that it cracked up to be. I think that is a fear that many fresh artists have experienced;, worrying that their music is going to change, or even their own character, once the fame comes” Cole went on to say.

This song really stood out to us here at TMP the first time we heard the record. We really dig the message and the way the song is laid out and presented. Cole brings you along for the journey and does a great job depicting the climb the artists strive to make; only to realize it’s not what he wanted.  His bluesy southern vocals help paint each picture of the song, and production gives it a nice well-rounded touch! We dig it!   JUD 1

The band started the year by making some noise outside of Texas in Steamboat, Oklahoma, and Kansas and are now back in the Lone Star State, hitting the scene hard.  Their tour schedule is filling up fast for 2016 and they have already confirmed some big shows at Crude Fest and Mardi Gras Texas Style!  They’re also writing for their 2nd record right now, and have some surprises in store!  So stay tuned for more updates about new music from them!

This single follows up Top 30 single, “Time to Run” off of their debut “Eastern Skies” and we’re thinking this one is going to make an even higher run!  We want you to help us get it there by requesting it on your online and local radio stations!
