It’s no secret we’ve been on the Giovannie & the Hired Guns bandwagon since coming across their debut single “Better Days” nearly two years ago. We were then impressed by their debut album “Bad Habits”, which has now gone on to rack up over 700K combined streams! The Stephenville outfit is back at it again, and we’re excited to bring you an early listen to what we think is going to be their biggest tune to date!
Written by Giovannie Yanez and produced and Engineered by Taylor “Zye” Kimball at Rad Dirt Records, the song was penned when Yanez was passing through the town of an ex-girlfriend. “I was thinking about what I would do if I saw her,” Yanez told us. “I was already heading to Stephenville to work on a new song and I looked in my driver’s side mirror, caught myself flipping the sky off, and saw a middle finger and the rooster tattoo on my arm. It’s one of my favorite songs I’ve written for sure. Maybe this song will help pay for the dick she keyed in my truck”, he continued.
Here at TMP, we dig the attitude, edge, and driving tempo of the tune. From the first few seconds of the song, you can tell you’re in for a ride! Yanez’s rugged vocals take you through the rollercoaster of anguish, bitterness, regret, and resolve with the amped up music drizzling layered intensity on top of it all. It’s dark but exciting; which is what we’ve become accustomed to from this up-and-coming band. While perhaps it’s not much of a departure in theme from their previous catalog, you can hear the growth in the songwriting, feel the added experience in the delivery, and feel the depth of the instrumentation and production on this one. The group is currently working on their sophomore album and is going back into the studio next month to finish it up (Rad Dirt Records) and if this is any sign of what’s to come, we think Giovannie & the Hired Guns are quickly headed to the next tier!
Along with the excitement of dropping new tunes, they recently signed with Texas/Red Dirt powerhouse booking agency Red 11 Music! They anticipate having a very busy show schedule leading into the release of the next album later this Fall. “We want to thank everyone for the unconditional love and support y’all give us, coming to shows, buying the merch. See you at the next rock show”, Gio relayed to TMP.
The tune drops this Friday, and we definitely encourage you to grab a copy and add it to your playlists, but in the meantime, enjoy an early listen below for the next 24 hours!
You’ll also be able to hear it here on our TMP Spotify Playlist once it drops.
