Tanner Fenoglio first grabbed our attention last year with his debut album “This Town”, so we were thrilled to get a taste of some new tunes back in May when he released the lead single, “Interstate”, from his upcoming album. Now with the rest of the “Lucky Man” album ready to drop tomorrow, we’re excited to spread the good word!
Recorded at The Zone in Dripping springs TX, and produced by Grammy award-winner Lloyd Maines, the 10 track project features 9 originals written or co-written by Fenoglio, and a cover of Shawn Mullins’ “Beautiful Wreck”.
Fenoglio delivers toe-tappers, love ballads, heartbreak waltzes, and smooth grooves. Most notably about the project is how personal each song comes off. The Nocona, TX native brings you in to each track with songwriting that dives below the surface and a heavy dose transparency in the storytelling. You can feel the inspiration for each track whether it’s his family, past or current relationships, or life experiences. This album feels like it’s just as much for him and the ones close to him, as it is for the fans.
With twangy vocals, colorful instrumentation, and choruses that make you sing along, Fenoglio delivers a solid follow-up effort that we think will provide some good momentum to the buzz he’s already created! Maybe most impressive is the fact that there’s not one track that tempts you to hit the skip button. Every song holds up. That kind of consistency makes people take the whole album in and often leaves a lasting impression…and lasting impressions always lead to fans….
The album offers a lot for the listener to dive in to. Between the hard-hitting production and passionate delivery of “Anymore”, the midnight blues feel of “As it Seems”, the warmth of the chorus on “Lucky Man”, the accompaniment of Jackie Darlene on “Talk of this Town” that really drives it home, the intimacy of the lyrics in “Home”, the sax solo on “Leavin”, the rich songwriting of “Color”, and the true Texas-country sound of “Interstate”, each track gives you something a little different to take with you after listening…and to me, that’s pretty damn impressive.
Our *PICK* of the album is “Leaving Midland”. We love the foot-stomping energy, and infectious excitement of coming home that bleeds through the track. We dig the upbeat vibe provided by the feel-good instrumentation and story of “making up for lost time”. The chorus captures you the first time around, and has you reaching for the play button as soon as the track is over. We can’t wait to add this one to the playlist and we’d love to hear it across radio waves soon!
“Lucky Man” drops tomorrow and we definitely encourage you to grab a copy! In the meantime, enjoy an early listen to one of our favorites, and title track, below!
