The Global Head of Country Music at Spotify Joins Panel at TMP Songwriter Competition

We are excited to announce that John Marks, The Global Head of Country Music at Spotify, will be a honored guest (and the tie-breaking judge) during the TMP Songwriter Competition’s Final Round!

John Marks joins a judge’s panel currently made up of talent buyers and representatives from 13 venues & 9 festivals from 5 states, as well as booking agents, radio personnel, managers, and more!  If you’re an up-and-coming Texas/Red Dirt artist, here’s your opportunity to get in front of some movers and shakers in the scene!


John Marks spent most of his career in terrestrial radio, since the age of 16. Programming stints include KKAT – Salt Lake City, KWNR – Las Vegas, KSON – San Diego among others.

From there, John spent 5 years as the Sr. Director of Country Music at Sirius XM. Under Marks’ leadership, The Highway became one of the most listened to music channels in their platform. Through the Highway, Marks helped lead many country acts into national prominence.

After Sirius XM, John Marks landed at Spotify as their Global Editor for Country Music – including Christian and Americana. John Marks’ primary playlist, Hot Country, is currently the 3rd most listened to playlist worldwide and has nearly 5 Million followers.  Marks is also the curator for many other in-house Spotify playlists including the Texas Music Now playlist; which is made up of the latest & greatest Texas/Red Dirt artists, updated regularly, and has nearly a quarter of a million followers!
