There’s something special about artists who have a knack for navigating their way through the balancing act of continually innovating their sound, yet keeping the foundational core of it. The ability to give fans something familiar, yet something new and different, is what cements independent artists, like the ones in our scene, for long-term success. When an artist is continually putting out new music for several years, it can be tough to approach every project with excitement, creativity, and the energy required to take the record to the “next level”.
One play through of William Clark Green’s new single “Hit You Where it Hurts”, you can tell the upcoming album, “Herbert Island” is going to be one hell of a record. There’s definitely not going to be any shortage of passion or fire; and while it’s not a massive departure by any means of the sound from his previous albums, you can feel the tingles of freshness and evolution in WCG’s style, energy, and sound on this one that leaves the you both satisfied and excited for what’s to come!
Produced by Benjy Davis at Sound Emporium in Nashville, Clark and Corey Kent White penned the song about the anger that often arises after a bad breakup. “The song is an expression of a very vulnerable moment in time when someone screws you over. Those immediate childish feelings that eventually go away after reflection“, Green told us.
Here at TMP, we feel what makes this song so powerful, is the emotion that’s captured on the track: that feeling of raw desire for repercussions for somebody who’s wronged you to help rectify the situation. The songwriting, delivery, energy of music, and punch of the chorus all cohesively convey that emotional reaction and have you personalizing it to you own past experiences; which is what great songs do. It’s complete all the way around, and has you singing along by the time the 2nd chorus drops. This one is a hit!
Every nightmare, and every dream,
I’m gonna make sure that you see
Exactly what you did to me,
It’ll feel just like a curse,
It’ll knock you in the dirt,
And just when you think it can’t worse,
I’m gonna hit you where it hurts
This lead single does exactly what it’s supposed to do: get you excited for what’s around the bend…build your anticipation….all while quenching your thirst for a new tune!
