Colby Keeling Does “Whatever It Takes” in New Album

One of our favorite things is when a debut project really grabs our attention; especially if it’s from an artist we’ve had our eye on for a while.  We’ve seen Colby Keeling come along way since entering our TMP Songwriter Competition 2 years ago.  We’ve seen his songwriting develop, his voice strengthen, and him find his sound.  Now, his debut EP,“Whatever it Takes”, is set to drop this Friday, and we’re definitely recommending you check it out.

With four of the five tracks recorded at the Sound Emporium in Nashville, and one recorded at Rosewood Studios in Tyler, TX, the project is packed with solid production, instruments that pop off the track, and a fresh sound.  Keeling offers heart-felt melodies and choruses you close your eyes and sing along to; making you reaching for the play button again at their conclusions. Most impressive is how consistent the project is.  Most debuts are all over the place. Not this one. It’s one you can play all the way through, with each song offering something a little different, and the quality-level staying on par.

Between the dreary heartbreak in “Dead End Road”, the warmth of emotions in “Love Has a Way”, the fire of jealousy in “Could Have Been Us”, or the determination in “Whatever it Takes”, Keeling offers a collection of songs that is easy to relate to.  While the Austin, TX resident has already created a foundation to his career by being a in finalist in the 2015 Texas Songwriter U Competition hosted by Jack Ingram and Radney Foster and opening shows for Cory Morrow, Josh Ward, Stoney Larue, Parker McCollum, Cody Canada and more,  this debut project will no doubt turn some heads and likely lead to an impressive reception for the Lufkin, Texas native.

Our *PICK* of the EP is “Why I Love this Place”.  The well-crafted lyrical descriptions of all of the places and people in his hometown, create a vivid visual the listener can’t help but see.  The alluring rhythm of the songwriting, superb instrumentation, and sentiment of the chorus, make it our clear favorite, and one we can’t wait to add to our TMP Spotify playlist!

“Whatever it Takes” drops this Friday on all of your digital platforms, and we encourage you to give it a spin!  In the meantime, enjoy an early listen to our *PICK* of the album “Why I Love This Place” below, and let us know what you think!
