Our spotlight shines on a long time favorite of Texas Music Pickers, John Slaughter. “Horseshoes and Hand Grenades” skyrocketed from #103 to #51 on the Texas Regional Radio Report this week, adding a whopping 225 spins. The gigantic move credited the single with the “Highest Debut”, “Most Adds”, and “Most Spin Increase”! Written by Trent Summar and Michael Heeney, Slaughter along with Greg Hunt produced the track. Slaughter told us “I believe this song relates to people in many ways. Everyone knows the guy, or you are that guy, that tells the nostalgic story from time to time along the lines of ‘I was that close’. Not just with dating, fishing, football but life in general. I take pride in writing almost all of my material, but I always said if something special came along I would have to cut it and I felt that way about ‘Horseshoes and Hand Grenades’. I have always been a fan of Trent Summar, as an artist, and a great writer, so I am thankful for the opportunity to record his song.”
This song stood out to Texas Music Pickers because of its ability to be both fun and insightful; not easily done. The combination of genuine reflection and introspection, mixed with humor and good nature makes for a perfect radio single! Slaughter’s vocals are on point and the energy makes for a song that sure to test your speaker’s volume level.
This release comes on the heels of “Ghost Town”, Slaughter’s first #1 as an artist. Still on the chart after 26 weeks, he is off to a fantastic start this year! He went on to tell us “I believe the best is yet to come. We are very excited about the release of this new record. This is the best work we have ever done. We are shooting for an early October release date. I just wanted to thank all of our fans, friends, venues and Country radio for being so good to us over the last few years. We couldn’t do this without the support of everyone.”
We believe this single is headed for #1 and should be his biggest hit yet! We encourage you to check out the single and request it on all of your local and online radio stations!
