The Global Head of Country Music at Spotify, John Marks, Joins Texas Music Seminar Lineup

We are excited to welcome back John Marks, The Global Head of Country Music at Spotify, to our 3rd Annual Texas Music Seminar!

John Marks joins a lineup of booking agents, managers, talent buyers, festival organizers, producers, lawyers, radio promoters, radio personnel, chart editors, distributors, marketers, bloggers, brand experts and three amazing Texas/Red Dirt artists (TBA on Wednesday)!

John Marks spent most of his career in terrestrial radio, since the age of 16.  Programming stints include KKAT – Salt Lake City, KWNR – Las Vegas, KSON – San Diego among others.

From there, John spent 5 years as the Senior Director of Country Programming at Sirius XM.  Under Marks’ leadership, The Highway became one of the most listened to music channels in their platform.  Through the Highway, Marks helped to break many artists into national prominence.

After Sirius XM, John Marks landed at Spotify as their Global Senior Editor for Country Music.  John curates more than 30 Country playlists.  The Flagship playlist, Hot Country, is currently the 4TH most consumed playlist worldwide on the Spotify platform. 

In recent events, Luke Combs with Sony Music celebrated his second number 1 song, “When It Rains It Pours”, Russell Dickerson with Triple Tigers also reached the Number 1 pinnacle with his first release “Yours” and duo Walker McGuire with Broken Bow Music, recently released their new song “Lost”.  They and others give large credit to Spotify in gaining national prominence as unsigned artists.

John is privileged to lead the charge of Spotify’s initiative to increase consumption of Country Music Worldwide.  That and breaking new artists on Spotify are tasks he is most passionate about. 

The Country Music Association recently awarded Marks the Jo Walker Meador Award.  The award recognizes outstanding achievement by an individual in advocating and supporting Country Music’s marketing development in territories outside the United States.
